Robert P Madison International, Inc was the designer and provided full A/E Services for Almira PK-8 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Almira PK-8 School is a three-story 64,297 sf building accommodating 450 students sited on a 2.09 acre site, offering classrooms, a gymnasium, cafetorium, media center, art room, instrumental room and administrative offices. The goal was to design a building that can not only be used to teach students but also be used by the community for a variety of functions including sporting events, performances, and meetings. The construction cost is $13.213 million.

RPMI provided close interaction with the community whose desire was to salvage the sandstone artifacts from the original school built in 1920 and incorporate them in the new Almira School.  Many of the salvaged stone pieces were used on the exterior of the building and in the interior two-story gallery space. The community involvement awarded RPMI a reference letter from the Safe-16 Community Organization and the Councilman. A quote from Safe-16 Reference Letter, “The project was not easy due to the small size of the property—it is one of the smallest Cleveland Municipal School District Properties.  Despite the challenges, RPMI met tirelessly with the community and the result is that Almira Academy is now a beautiful facility that the entire neighborhood is proud of.”

Results Accomplished:

Project received LEED Silver Certification.

RPMI was able to balance site amenities on a small 2.09 acre site – parking, playgrounds and green space.

The school is inviting and fits within the context of a dense residential neighborhood.
