Anton Grdina PK-8 School is a 73,760 sq. ft. building accommodating 625 students built on a 6.5 acre site surrounded by the new Garden Valley Estates Housing development by the Cleveland Metropolitan Housing Authority. The school and the first phase of the housing development opened in the same summer to revitalize a worn inner-city community. The construction cost for Anton Grdina is $14.9 million.

Scope of Services:

RPMI provided comprehensive architectural and engineering services from programming through construction administration. Also included in the scope was the demolition of the original Anton Grdina School on a neighboring site.

Benefit / Value to Client:

The school has a geothermal heating and cooling system with 230 well fields located in the staff parking lot and the play fields. The school houses a Cafetorium, Media Center, Instrumental Room, Computer Lab and Gymnasium that can be isolated for use after school hours for community use.

Results Accomplished:

 The school is inviting to the students and visitors.

The geothermal well field provides efficient heating and cooling all year

The building provides separation between academic space and spaces shared by the community after school hours.
