East High School
Gymnasium Reconstruction
Cleveland, Ohio

Plain Dealer Editorial, December 13, 2003
"Not every opening is likely to be as heralded as Tuesday’s event, but Clevelanders only can hope that the transformations will be as huge — East ’s gym is a model of a bright, well-lit space, one that can handle large crowds and one christened Tuesday night when East ’s Blue Bombers boys’ basketball team beat Lincoln-West. If every newly opened space witnesses such immediate achievement, the city’s investment will be well-placed indeed. "
The East High School Gymnasium Reconstruction was the first facility to receive modernization and upgrades under the Cleveland Municipal School District's (CMSD) System Revitalization Program.

The 22,000 square foot Gymnasium Reconstruction replaced the existing gymnasium, which collapsed in October 2000 and provides a facility which complies with the requirements of CMSD, OSFC and the community.  This new gymnasium has a seating capacity of 2,200 people.  The new facility can accommodate district level events. It includes the addition of new support activities and spaces to meet Ohio School Facilities Commission's (OSFC) Physical Education requirements.

The reconstruction includes upgrades to the environmental system and to incorporate new technologies and equipment consistent with OSFC standards. The new design by RPMI allowed for reuse of existing foundation systems. This facility contains one competition court and 2 practice courts, new locker rooms, physical health classroom, a training room and coaches offices.
