The RTA Waterfront Line is an extension of an existing rapid transit system that originates in downtown Cleveland and travels through the entertainment districts on the edge of the city. The stops (or stations) occur in the area called "the Flats". The place is historically significant in that the original settler's (surveyors from the Connecticut Land Co.) took residence here, along the banks of the Cuyahoga River. The locale evolved many times in its history - first as a trading post for Early Americans, secondly as a major lumber and boat building capital for the Great Lakes and alas as the supply and storage area for raw materials that energize the steel industry down the river. Today, the Flats is a happy combination of industry and entertainment (i.e., restaurants, clubs, etc.), which gives it its unique environment.
