RPMI in association with SSOE designed the Allen Correctional Center as a totally independent facility which is located on a 40 acre site.  This 260,000 sq. ft. medium security prison includes 500 cells, administrative areas, dining hall, education spaces, offices, workshop areas and other support areas.  The facility houses a fully equipped kitchen to service cafeteria style eating for a 224 seat main dining room and 75 seat staff dining room.  The 5,400 sq. ft. kitchen can serve 1,500 meals a day.   The total project involved architectural programming, utility study, total site development, architectural services, landscaping and all engineering disciplines.  Incorporated into the design was a complete fire protection system for the new complex encompassing three miles of underground fire main.
