Greater Cleveland Food Bank
In 2022, the Greater Cleveland Food Bank took a bold step forward in its mission to end hunger by opening a new distribution center designed to transform the way food reaches families across Northeast Ohio. As architect of record, RPMI helped bring this vision to life.
The facility was designed to do more than move food. Inside, a commercial kitchen prepares up to 20,000 meals each day, while expansive refrigerated storage holds over 100 million pounds of fresh produce and perishable items. Sustainability shaped the design from the start, with rooftop solar panels, a recycling system that turns food scraps into renewable energy, and energy-efficient lighting throughout.
Equally important was creating a place that feels welcoming and connected to the community. Vibrant murals, colorful gathering spaces, EV charging stations, and areas for volunteers bring energy and dignity to the site. Behind the scenes, modern technology, multiple docks, and expanded fleet space ensure operations run seamlessly and efficiently.
This new center is a lifeline that strengthens its ability to serve thousands of neighbors in need every day. For RPMI, it was an honor to design a space that reflects both the mission and the heart of this essential organization.
